From the SVE Admin Team
And that's a wrap on October! We want to thank you for all of your support of what we do. This really is such a caring environment for your children, and our staff show a genuine care for each other as well. Staff and students who have not been at another school may not realize just how exceptional this school is. Please keep an eye out for fundraisers coming your way that help support your PAC and all the things they want to do to support and enhance the learning environment here at SVE.
A good night's sleep - Sometimes that bedtime routine can become problematic, but we would like to remind everyone how important sleep hygiene and school attendance are. These are the two best ways to help your children succeed at school. Have a look at this link for tips on helping your child have a good night's sleep.
Enhancing Substance Use Prevention in BC Schools Survey: In Phase 2 of an ongoing engagement initiative, the Province is seeking input on how to help meet the challenge of youth substance use and its associated harms. Please complete this short survey by November 19.
What's for lunch? - Your growing child may need more food in their lunch as they grow, and we know it can be a struggle to get more healthy food and fewer sweet things in the lunch kit, but it really makes a difference in their learning through the day. We do have some snacks on hand for those in need, but you may want to chat with your child about how things are going.
School Cash Online - Click on this link to register for School Cash Online to pay your school fees. If you have any questions, please call Ms. Angus in our office.
Literacy Tips - There is a lot of research around how children learn to read and write, and we know that oral language plays a large role. Your child listening and speaking with you can actually help them develop as readers. Please see Mrs. Krebbers website here for more ideas and tips.
When your child is sick - Please keep your child home if they are sick. The best way to keep things from spreading is to keep sick children away from healthy children. Call the office if you have any questions. Thank you!
School Song with lyrics - Mrs. Schjodt put this video together so you can read the lyrics as well.

Springvalley Elementary School now has a Rest and Return room that focuses on providing a calming environment and activities to help students regulate their emotions rather than leaving students to their own devices. It is a space that teaches students how to identify their emotional triggers and provides tools to help them manage these big feelings. Adult assistance in problem solving prevention is provided as well. This allows students to self-refer when feeling overwhelmed for a structured 10-minute time, with supports, in our Rest and Return room. If you have any questions regarding this space and its uses please contact Ms. Everett at [email protected].
Parking Lot Reminder
Our parking lot is a Drop Off Only Zone in the mornings (please do not leave your vehicle) and is closed at the end of the day. We ask that parents park elsewhere and walk to the school to pick up your children. In doing so, please be considerate of our neighbours and be mindful of their properties. There is a turn-around at the end of Cornwall so that you do not need to make a U-turn in that narrow street.
A Few Other Reminders
School Schedule - 1st bell: 8:25am, day begins at 8:30am. We dismiss at 2:30pm, and there is supervision outside only until 2:45pm.
Attendance - School Messenger is the app we use to connect with you regarding attendance. Please follow this link if you have not already done so.
School Cash Online - Click on this link to register for School Cash Online. If you have any questions, please call Ms. Angus in our office.
Closed Campus - All guests or visitors need to arrange a meeting ahead of time as our doors are locked during the day. Please call us at 250-870-5119, or email us at [email protected]. Mr. Coats can be reached by email at [email protected], and Ms. Everett can be reached at [email protected].
Please leave Fido, Fifi, Spot or Rex at home - Dogs are not allowed on the school property.

PAC Update
Wow November already! Well we are happy to report that your Parent Advisory Council has been brainstorming some fantastic and different ways to fundraise for our community. We will be doing a couple of different fundraisers leading up to Christmas. Hopefully it will help to make your Christmas shopping easier while helping our Skyhawk community! Our next PAC meeting will be November 10th at 7pm through Zoom and we encourage all SVE parents to join in! Should you have any fundraising ideas or want to add a topic to the next PAC meeting agenda please email it to [email protected]. Stay safe, stay healthy and keep warm! Your SVE PAC President Dorey Gardiner |
