From the SVE Admin Team
April is here!
This week we heard about the new requirements for staff and for students in grades four and five to wear masks while indoors. We do have some masks on hand, but it would be ideal if you could send your child with a re-usable mask for them to wear. The letter from our Superintendent is attached. We are still following all mandated health guidelines, and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions about how we implement them. Our number in the office is 250-870-5119, and my email is [email protected].
April is a very busy month, and whether you celebrated Passover, Easter, or are looking forward to Ramadan, we want to wish all of you health and happiness. Please have a look at the calendar below for all the events coming our way.
As we come into the final push of the academic year, we would like to remind everyone how important sleep hygiene and school attendance are. These are the two best ways to help your children succeed at school. Have a look at this link for tips on helping your child have a good night's sleep.
Early Learning for Families
Our ELF event is going to be on Wednesday April the 14th, from 3:30 - 5:00pm. This event is intended for families and their three-to five-year-old children. Early Learning For Families / Ready Set Learn is all about how to support our early learners and their transition to school. If you have a three to five year old in your home, or know someone in our area that does, please let them know about this socially-distant event coming to our parking lot on the 14th.
Class Photos are coming up on Monday, April 19th!

Survey for Parents
The Student Learning Survey will be administered at school to students in grade four, and we are asking you, their parents/guardians/caregivers to participate as your input is important. The survey can be accessed at http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey. Access to the e-survey is simple and secure and can be accessed through the link with or without an anonymous logon code. Simply select school district 23 Central Okanagan, and Springvalley Elementary. Provincial, District and School Reports for previous years can be viewed at the same site under the Results section. The e-survey site will be open until April 30th. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Coats.
Spirit Day - Friday April 9th
This Friday we are encouraging everyone to wear their favourite jersey to school. If you don't have a jersey, then choose a favourite colour, or your best Skyhawk wear!

March Social-Emotional Learning Scoop
We know that the changes during the pandemic are stressful for everyone, including our students. Our District SEL team has some great reminders about strengthening relationships. The March SEL Scoop is out, and you can read it here.

PAC Updates
A big hello to the wonderful Springvalley Elementary community as we welcome spring! Thank you to those who supported our Purdy's fundraiser. We will be launching a new fundraiser this month....Cookie Dough from In-Dey-Go. Due to safety precautions with collecting cash due to covid we will be offering a quick explanation of how to send payments at the beginning of our next Zoom PAC meeting on April 14th at 7pm (zoom 848 2130 1155 pswd SVEPAC). Watch for Cookie Fundraiser information to come home couple of weeks. It’s a easy way to get home baked cookies without all the mess! We still have the ongoing bottle drive through Columbia Bottle Depot on Kent Rd if you wish to help out over the holiday season by donating your empties. Please put in only 12 glass bottles per bag to prevent the bottles from breaking and cutting the bag or those sorting. I would also like to remind everyone that your Springvalley Elementary Parent Advisory Council is here to help be a voice for you the parents so if you have great fundraising ideas, any ideas that could help enrich the school year for our children, or need support voicing your concerns please feel free to email us at [email protected] to share your thoughts with us. I hope to see you at the next PAC meeting on April 14th at 7pm Zoom 848 2130 1155 pswd SVEPAC. Your SVE PAC Co-Chairpersons Dorey Gardiner & Kim Graumann |
FreshGrade Portfolios - This is our primary way of communicating your child's learning at Springvalley. Digital learning portfolios are where your child has the opportunity to share what they are learning and have CRITICALLY IMPORTANT LEARNING CONVERSATIONS with you. Please login and make a difference in the learning your child is engaging with. You may want to set one night a week where you review your child's site and talk about:
1. What they are doing well. (more than just "good job." Boost their self esteem by proving to them that they are doing well with something specific: ex. "You have lots of interesting words like 'brilliant' and 'magical' in your writing example").
2. What they want to improve and next steps in their learning.
Click here to login to your parent account or sign up for an account or download the Freshgrade parent app. Parent / Teacher conferences will be on February 3rd and 4th. A sign up will be sent to you soon.
