COURAGE... Our Word
As we continue to make our way through this pandemic, in District 23 we are approaching our days with COURAGE. Courage to be the best learners we can be, courage to come to school every day ready to learn, courage to ask for what we need, and courage to reach out for support when we need it. This is true for every member of our community. We encourage you all to show courage and together we will make this a great year!
This year, we will continue to work to engage all learners to be creative, critical thinkers, and effective collaborators who communicate with kindness, gratitude and demonstrate a growth mindset in pursuing
their personal best. This is our Mission at SVE!
Thank you to parents who continue to support our physical distancing expectations at all times when on our school grounds. As we are in Stage 2, our school will remain closed to all visitors unless invited into the school for an appointment. Please do not enter the school without calling the office. If you must pick up your child for an appointment, please call the school when you arrive and remain outside - we will have your child come meet you out front. Thank you for continuing to respect the health and safety of all.
Ms. Sue Stevenson and Mr. David Coats

ORANGE SHIRT DAY
Every Child Matters at Springvalley Elementary and on September 30, many wore an orange shirt to show their support of residential school survivors. Students heard the story of Phyllis who wore her new orange shirt to her first day of residential school only to have it taken from her. Now more than ever we must work together to better understand the residential school experience, to honour the survivors and their families and commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.

Financial Hardship The Central Okanagan School District's Financial Hardship Clause Within School District Regulations 425R – Student Fees (see www.sd23.bc.ca), the Board of Education has indicated "that a student will not be excluded from any educational program due to financial hardship". Clause 8.5 in the Regulations provides "Principals are directed to establish a procedure in each school which will allow for the private and confidential consideration of financial circumstances of individual students and families. Such procedures will preserve the dignity of families who may be unable to pay". Please contact the school Principal if you are facing a financial hardship that may restrict the ability of your child to access a school program.

PAC Updates
Happy October Springvalley Elementary parents and families! Thanks for your support on September 30th as we were able to successfully elect the executive for our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) for the 2020-21 school year. In years past we have been able to bring the Vancouver Aquarium Aqua Bus, hold events like the Monster Bash Dance, our Year End Carnival, purchase I-pads for student use, help the students learn to roller blade and start planning for a new school playground. Although this year will look different than previous years due to our need to keep our community safe, we are ready to tackle the challenges that we may find ahead so that we can support the needs of our Springvalley community. We are looking for event and fundraising ideas that you may have. No idea is too big or small! You can email your ideas to [email protected] or come join us at any of our monthly meetings on Zoom. Our first fundraising meeting is on October 8th at 7pm and our next PAC meeting will be on October 14th at 7pm so make sure that you are signed up for SVE notifications so that we can get you the information to attend! Stay Safe and Healthy! Your SVE PAC Co Chair Team - Dorey Gardiner & Kim Graumann Help raise money for our new playground at SVE! Bring your bottles and cans to the Columbia Bottle Depot on KENT ROAD You can continue to help our PAC raise money for our playground by bringing your bottles and cans to the Return It-Express at the Columbia Bottle Depot; 1936 Kent Road.
