From the SVE Admin Team
Harmony Day is coming up... We are sorry that Harmony Day will not be the celebration it has been in the past. We do have plans to help celebrate the diversity here at Springvalley that adhere to our latest health and safety regulations. We are encouraging staff and students to wear any clothing that reflects their culture, but many of our students may wear their orange Every Child Matters t-shirt instead. More about our plans will be on our website shortly.
Kindergarten Registration for Next Year: Do you have, or know someone who has a four year old at home who is going to come to Kindergarten next year? Follow this link to the information to help you with that process.
Attendance: Please let the office know if your child is going to be absent. Right now we are tracking whether students are excused or ill, so it will help us if you could let us know the reason for the absence.
Surveys:
Parent Learning Survey: Each year, we are asked to have our staff and Grade Four students and their parents to complete a Learning Survey. You may access the survey by the Direct Access from this website, and scroll down to "Direct Access No Login Required." Surveys are to be completed by parents with children in Grades 4, 7, 10, and 12. A parent may complete a survey for each child in the targeted grades. The parent survey is available in English, French and 16 other languages. Parents can complete surveys on their own time, and we really appreciate you taking the time so we can have your input.
Middle Years Development Index (MDI) Survey: Each year our grade five students complete the MDI survey, which gives us great information about their attitudes towards school and learning. A letter went home with grade fives before Winter Break with more information.
School Calendar Survey: Please see this link to give your input on the school calendar for the next two academic years.
Supervision before and after school: We begin our supervision outside 8:10am each morning, and there are no staff members outside before that time. After school we have supervision outside until 2:43pm, and will ask any children not picked up or supervised by a parent at that time will be brought to the office for us to call you. There are a number of students playing after that time, and for safety reasons, we cannot leave them out there unsupervised.
Problem Solving Forms: We have restarted using our yellow Problem Solving Forms for when there is a conflict here at school. Your child will bring home the yellow form for you to have a conversation about what happened. Please then sign and return the form the next day.
Literacy Tips - There is a lot of research around how children learn to read and write, and we know that oral language plays a large role. Your child listening and speaking with you can actually help them develop as readers. Please see Mrs. Krebbers website here for more ideas and tips.
When your child is sick - Please keep your child home if they are sick. The best way to keep things from spreading is to keep sick children away from healthy children, and by handwashing and mask wearing when all together. Call the office if you have any questions. Thank you!
Our Christmas Concert video: Follow this link to watch your children perform! A huge thank you to Mrs. Schjodt, who not only taught all the music and choreography, but also spent almost 18 hours on the computer editing all the film to make a wonderful video for you to share with your extended family! Thank you also to Ms. Wannop who came in for two days to help out.
School Song with lyrics - Mrs. Schjodt put this video together so you can read the lyrics as well.
