Halfway there...
As hard as it may be to believe, this weekend marks the halfway point in the school year. Although it is the shortest month of the year, February is lining up to be one of our busiest. Please see the calendar below for important dates coming up. We will be opening registration next week for next year's Kindergarten students. Please see the information below if you (or your friends or neighbours!) are hoping to register with us.
Our Staff Parking Lot
Yes, I know you notice that I include this every month, but please know that some days our staff members have to park on the road as too many parents are using our staff parking lot to park and walk their child to class. If you want to walk your child to their classroom, or meet them at the door after school please park on the neighboring streets. At this time, we will keep our parking lot open in the morning to those who wish to drop and go, and in the afternoon for those families with special circumstances requiring they pull right in. We also ask that you PLEASE respect our neighbors and do not park in their driveways or on their property at any time. Thank you!
Student conferences
We are in the process of scheduling our second set of student conferences. You will have received an email inviting you to our sign up genius system. If for some reason you have not seen it, please contact your child's teacher to set up a time to chat either via Zoom or telephone. Being able to discuss the progress and concerns around your child's learning is essential in helping them succeed. We are looking forward to speaking to all of you.
Here's to You Mrs. Stevenson! You can watch our students dancing their good wishes to Mrs. Stevenson in this video.
Winter Celebration Concert: You can now access the whole show at this link.
Student pick up/drop off
There are times when some families need extra help either with pick up after school, or drop off in the morning. Currently, there is one family seeking some assistance from 6:30am until school starts. Please let the office know if this parent could drop her child off with you.

FreshGrade Portfolios - This is our primary way of communicating your child's learning at Springvalley. Digital learning portfolios are where your child has the opportunity to share what they are learning and have CRITICALLY IMPORTANT LEARNING CONVERSATIONS with you. Please login and make a difference in the learning your child is engaging with. You may want to set one night a week where you review your child's site and talk about:
1. What they are doing well. (more than just "good job." Boost their self esteem by proving to them that they are doing well with something specific: ex. "You have lots of interesting words like 'brilliant' and 'magical' in your writing example").
2. What they want to improve and next steps in their learning.
Click here to login to your parent account or sign up for an account or download the Freshgrade parent app. Parent / Teacher conferences will be on February 3rd and 4th. A sign up will be sent to you soon.

PAC Updates
Happy New Years Springvalley Elementary familes! We hope that you were able to enjoy your winter break. For those of you that ordered Spirit Wear, we would like to thank you for your patience. Some pieces did not arrive before the break and we should have all orders to you within the next couple of weeks. If you don't want to sort all those empties that you have piled up from the holiday season let us make it easier by taking your unsorted bottles (max 12 glass bottles per bag) and cans to Columbia Bottle Depot on Kent Rd and donate them to the PAC Bottle Fundraiser. Just label the clear bag with the school's phone number (250) 870-5119. Do you have a hidden talent or skill? We are putting a call out to the Springvalley Elementary community for any hidden talents or donations for a future fundraisers. Please email us at [email protected] to let us know what items or skill you may be able to donate.
