From the SVE Admin Team
Spring Break is coming up... We have a lot to do in the next three weeks leading up to the break. Teachers are going over assessments, and working on term two Learning Summaries, which will be sent home on Thursday, March 17th.
Rapid Antigen Test Kids for Students: We have one kit of five tests for each student at SVE. We can only hand them to adults, and there is a Safety Alert regarding keeping these kits out of the reach of children. Pick up anytime between 8am and 3pm, or call the school at 250-870-5119 to make any other arrangements.
Kindergarten Registration for Next Year: Do you have, or know someone who has a four year old at home who is going to come to Kindergarten next year? Follow this link to the information to help you with that process.
Attendance: Please let the office know if your child is going to be absent. Right now we are tracking whether students are excused or ill, so it will help us if you could let us know the reason for the absence.
Parent Learning Survey: Each year, we are asked to have our staff and Grade Four students and their parents to complete a Learning Survey. You may access the survey by the Direct Access from this website, and scroll down to "Direct Access No Login Required." Surveys are to be completed by parents with children in Grades 4, 7, 10, and 12. A parent may complete a survey for each child in the targeted grades. The parent survey is available in English, French and 16 other languages. Parents can complete surveys on their own time, and we really appreciate you taking the time so we can have your input.
Supervision before and after school: We begin our supervision outside 8:10am each morning, and there are no staff members outside before that time. After school we have supervision outside until 2:43pm, and will ask any children not picked up or supervised by a parent at that time will be brought to the office for us to call you. There are a number of students playing after that time, and for safety reasons, we cannot leave them out there unsupervised.
Problem Solving Forms: We have restarted using our yellow Problem Solving Forms for when there is a conflict here at school. Your child will bring home the yellow form for you to have a conversation about what happened. Please then sign and return the form the next day.
Literacy Tips - There is a lot of research around how children learn to read and write, and we know that oral language plays a large role. Your child listening and speaking with you can actually help them develop as readers. Please see Mrs. Krebbers website here for more ideas and tips.
When your child is sick - Please keep your child home if they are sick. The best way to keep things from spreading is to keep sick children away from healthy children, and by handwashing and mask wearing when all together. Call the office if you have any questions. Thank you!

PAC Update
A very happy March to everyone in the Springvalley Elementary community! Thank you to those in the community who ordered pizza during our Dominos Pizza fundraiser held on Feb 23. We will be sending home an important fundraising package with your children in the next little bit so please keep an eye out for it. It has important information about our spring seeds fundraiser, Easter chocolates from Purdy’s and some very important information regarding ordering hot lunches. The bottle fundraiser is still ongoing so if you have a lot of empty recycling cans you don’t wish to deal with then take them down to the Columbia Bottle Depot on Kent Rd. Please put in only 12 glass bottles per bag to prevent the bottles from breaking and cutting the bag or those sorting. Just use the phone number 250-870-5119. Have you signed up to our FACEBOOK page? This is a great resource to learn about upcoming fundraisers, school events, and free webinars available to the Springvalley Elementary school community. We would like to invite you to our next Springvalley Elementary PAC meeting on March 9th at 7pm through Zoom # 848 2130 155 just use the password SVEPAC. HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR PARENTS - MARCH 2022
DENTAL - Kids Miss School due to Dental Problems
Each year kids miss valuable school days due to dental problems. Dental problems will interfere with a child’s concentration in school and ability to enjoy extra-curricular activities. Research supports that children with good oral hygiene, and regular dental care, miss less school due to dental problems, and have better adult oral health.
Basic dental coverage is available for children through The BC Healthy Kids Program. Eligibility criteria for the Healthy Kids Program is based on eligibility for Medical Services Plan (MSP) Supplementary Benefits. Children are eligible for up to a maximum of $2,000 towards basic dental services every two years. This includes:
To use services under the BC Healthy Kids Program the parent or student can show the student’s BC CareCard or BC Services Card to the dental provider. The dental office will confirm coverage with the program before each appointment. Before any services begin, parents need to check with the provider to see if there will be additional charges over what the BC Healthy Kids program will cover. Further information about Healthy Kids Program can be found on the Ministry’s website.
