From the SVE Admin Team

Almost there... We are in the final stages of assessing student progress, developing learning summaries, and of course looking ahead at plans for next year. See below for some exciting summer opportunities for kids. Last week we had a very exciting Go By Bike week, and had almost 20 gently used bicycles donated which are being given to students based on a submission as to why they would like to win one. We also raised almost $500 for Heart and Stroke research through Jump Rope for Heart. A Grade Four student won a brand new bicycle through the Safe Routes and Active Travel survey.

National Indigenous People's Day - We are looking forward to a day of celebrating on June 21st. If you are interested in volunteering on this special day, and have a Criminal Record check on file, please let your child's teacher know that you are interested.

Any changes for next year: Do you have any plans to move or change schools for next year? Please let the office know as soon as possible to help with our planning. If you, or someone you know has a four year old at home who is going to come to Kindergarten next year, follow this link to the information to help you with that process.

Literacy Tips - There is a lot of research around how children learn to read and write, and we know that oral language plays a large role. Your child listening and speaking with you can actually help them develop as readers. Please see Mrs. Krebbers website here for more ideas and tips.

School Song with lyrics - Mrs. Schjodt put this video together so you can read the lyrics as well.

PAC UpdateHello Springvalley Elementary community! It’s hard to believe we are at the last newsletter for the 2021/2022 school year.
Watch for the popular T Bone Gift Card fundraiser. It makes a great Father’s Day Gift or get one for BBQ season and help support the SVE community.
Are you ready for the SVE Year End Event ?!?!?!?…. Friday June 17th your PAC has planned a movie night with food trucks for everyone to enjoy. Watch for info on the event for more information.
Our bottle fundraiser is an ongoing fundraiser (even through the summer!) so if you have a lot of empty recycling cans you don’t wish to deal with then take them down to the Columbia Bottle Depot on Kent Rd and use the phone number 250-870-5119. Please remember to put in only 12 glass bottles per bag to prevent the bottles from breaking and cutting the bag or those sorting.
Have you signed up to our FACEBOOK page? This is a great resource to learn about upcoming fundraisers, school events, and free webinars available to the Springvalley Elementary school community. Did you know that your PAC also posts events, minutes and financial reports on our school website for your information so be sure to check it out!
We would like to invite you to our last Springvalley Elementary PAC meeting of this school year on Wednesday June 8th at 7pm through Zoom # 848 2130 155 just use the password SVEPAC.
Lastly, in my last submission to the newsletter I would like to express a sincere thank you to the SVE PAC Team, teachers, administration, and parents. It is hard to pick just one word to describe you since you are all welcoming, thoughtful, supportive, creative, and lastly…..AMAZING! Without your help and input so much would not have been possible for our students and community to enjoy throughout the 6 years that I have been a part of the SVE PAC. That being said… our Springvalley Elementary Parent Advisory Council IS going to need YOUR help next year as some long-time members are moving on. Without your help we could lose important funding that is used to help support our community at a time when budgets are tight. The SVE PAC Annual General Meeting will be held in September so please consider joining this welcoming team of parents. Not only is it a great way to stay informed of events happening in our community but by attending meetings it allows you to have a say in what is going on in your child’s school!
Thank you for an enjoyable school year and I wish you a wonderful summer!
Your SVE PAC President
Dorey Gardiner
